The sheets and written reminders below work even without the interactive tools. Print the blank sheets for class or open a colored reference to review.

The metric system

Meter (m) is a shared length unit. One meter contains 10 dm, 100 cm or 1,000 mm. One dam is 10 m; one hm is 100 m; one km is 1,000 m.

Smaller units need a larger count for the same positive length. Changing a unit does not change the length.

Metric conversions

Name → Scale → Predict → Cancel → Check. When multiplying, matching units in the numerator and denominator cancel. An equivalent conversion factor changes the unit, not the amount.

0.05 km = 50 m = 5,000 cm.
422 dg = 42.2 g = 42,200 mg.
